Personal Brand Photoshoot for Creative Director of Red Letter Co.
As a personal brand photographer, I know how important building a brand is for a business. Using creative digital tools like photography and web design can help show potential clients the brand that they have the opportunity to work with. Johanna Tafao-Braganza, more commonly known as Ati, is the founder and creative director of Red Letter Co. Her business helps entrepreneurs overcome the stresses of starting a new business through her website and brand design talents.
Many times I have the opportunity to work with my close friends but this was the first time I was able to work with a family member! Ati is a distant cousin on my dad’s side and very recently we connected over social media. We bonded over the fact that we have both ventured out into being creative entrepreneurs, as most of our family members work 9-5 jobs. Having this in common with someone in my family was very exciting. After leaving her full time job and taking off with her business, Red Letter Co, Ati was in search of brand photos. Her goal with these photos was to embody who she was through the use of portrait images.
Ati has spent most of her life living in San Francisco which has turned out to be a huge part of not only her brand but herself as an individual. So, of course, we had to take this photoshoot in the heart of the city. Like I do with all my clients, I met with Ati over Zoom prior to the photoshoot day to make sure I knew exactly what she was looking for. We decided on a studio space in downtown San Francisco through a website called Breather.
The day of the photoshoot started at the studio to capture some classic and professional headshots. We also made sure to capture some “working” shots to be used on her website. Ati used her laptop and a beautifully designed Red Letter Co coffee mug as props for this part of the photoshoot. After finishing up in the studio, we then moved onto the streets of San Francisco. Ati was in search of images with an urban and city-like feel. We strolled along downtown while I shot photos of her and the city spoke for itself. Before meeting for the photoshoot, I tried something with Ati to bring out her full confidence. I had her bring in a photo that she really loved of herself and one that maybe was not her favorite. This was really helpful for the photoshoot since we were able to capture her in the way she envisioned being photographed.
I love the network of friends and clients I have been able to work with throughout the years, but there’s nothing like working with family. It was such a great experience to work with another family member that shares a similar career journey as me. I’m so happy I was able to help bring her brand to life through this personal brand photoshoot.
