Bay Area Brand Photography for a New Website: The Mama Coach
A new business, a new website, and a whole collection of photos to bring it together! When Jamie Mueller was getting ready to launch The Mama Coach, she wanted images that would introduce her and help families get a feel for the support she planned to offer.
Jamie is a registered nurse with a background in labor and delivery and women’s health. In planning her brand session, she kept coming back to empathy, compassion, and support. “I want people to feel seen and heard and supported,” she shared. That gave us such a clear starting point for the photos.
Planning brand photos for a new website
We planned Jamie’s session with her website in mind: portraits for her About page, images to introduce her services, and a mix of horizontal and vertical photos for different layouts. She also wanted to use the collection on social media, so variety was a big part of the plan.
Her vision was calm, light and airy, and professional without feeling clinical. We photographed her in scrubs with her stethoscope, along with more relaxed portraits in a white blouse and brown trousers. Together, those photos give her different ways to introduce both her nursing background and the person behind the business.
A brand photoshoot at her mother-in-law’s home in Portola Valley
For this session, we used Jamie’s mother-in-law’s home in Portola Valley. Our location planning focused on neutral walls and good light, and the finished gallery includes portraits by a window, relaxed moments on the sofa, and Jamie working at a laptop at the table.
I love the variety you can create within a home. A window, a sofa, and a table each gave us a different setting for Jamie’s photos, while keeping that soft, approachable feel she wanted throughout the collection.
Showing the work behind her services
Jamie was preparing to offer support around newborn care, feeding, sleep, potty training, and CPR education. We wanted her photo library to include more than portraits, so we made room for scenes and details connected to that work.
We photographed a demonstration with an infant doll while a woman holding her baby watched, playful moments with a young child, and details of feeding equipment and Jamie’s stethoscope. There are also photos of her with an infant mannequin and working at her laptop. These give her options for illustrating different services and introducing how she works with families.
That’s something I think about when planning a brand session for a website: what will the photos need to help explain? For Jamie, the mix of portraits, interactions, and small details was planned around introducing a new business and the many ways she hoped to support her community.
